Description
Disciplinary literacy refers to a specific skill set needed to access the literacy demands of reading, writing, speaking, and listening within various disciplines. In this course, you will gain a range of disciplinary literacy strategies to use with learners in your school or classroom. Topics inlcude:
- The unique challenges found in the skills and strategies needed across content areas
- The disciplinary demands found in texts specific to a subject area
- The role of the educator in developing high-level literacy skills within and across content areas
- Strategies for teaching learners how to use disciplinary-based literacies to understand and use information
Learning Intentions
- Explore the principles of disciplinary and content literacy and they relate to each other
- Examine techniques and strategies to support students in vocabulary development across disciplines
- Learn strategies and identify tools to support comprehension

eCampus by CESA 1 is a collection of virtual learning experiences covering a wide range of topics that focus on building the capacity of educators to positively impact learners. All eCampus courses are self-paced and asynchronous. Enrollment is rolling due to the self-paced nature of the courses.
Content in courses designated with a I, II, or III are designed to be taken in order. All other other courses can be accessed in any order. The Learner-Centered Practice and Leading Learner-Centered Education series of courses align with the i4PL model.
