Description
This course will build on Addressing Literacy Disruption I. You will continue your exploration of the foundational elements of early literacy with time built in for you to make connections to literacy disruption in your specific setting. Topics include:
- English language sounds and their connection to skilled reading
- Importance of phonemic awareness to literacy proficiency
- Importance of phonics to skilled reading
Through exploration of these topics, you will learn to consider the implications for explicit, systematic literacy instruction, and will be able to address any literacy disruption within your environment. Time will be provided for you to connect the content to your practice.
Learning Intentions
- Understand the following elements of early literacy: phonological awareness, phonemic awareness, phonics
- Explore the differences between these elements, as well as how they connect
- Become familiar with the subsets of phonological awareness, levels of phonemic awareness, and elements of a robust phonics program
