Description

Join the CESA 1 Literacy Team for an immersive school leadership event focused on advancing science-aligned literacy practices! Engage in collaborative discussions and activities to craft targeted action plans for effective implementation of Act 20 Requirements that support Science-Aligned early literacy instruction.

Act 20 requires all principals of grades of 5K-3 and district reading specialists to complete literacy training focused on the systematic implementation of curriculum and practices that meet the definition of Science-aligned Early Literacy Instruction. These two days can be added on to ANY CERI-accredited teacher training to meet the Act 20 Leadership requirement and would ideally follow the last session of the teacher training. Leaders who also need the required literacy training should look to register for ACT 20 Cox Campus Training for Leaders instead.

Required to attend: Principals and Reading Specialists

Recommended to attend: Curriculum Directors, Special Education Directors, Literacy Coaches and Instructional Coaches

Participants will:

  • Engage in collaborative discussions and activities to develop targeted action plans for implementing science-aligned literacy practices
  • Explore ways to build capacity among educators and support staff to ensure consistent implementation of research-supported reading instruction throughout the school system
  • Develop understanding and focus around explicit instruction in foundational literacy skills, such as phonemic awareness, phonics, fluency, vocabulary, and comprehension, ensuring systematic progression and mastery
  • Acquire tools to guide you in conducting walkthroughs and look-fors in your buildings

  • August 6, 2026 - 9:00am-12:00pm
  • August 7, 2026 - 9:00am-12:00pm
