Description
The four courses that make up the New Educator Series are part of a collection of courses focused on building the capacity of educators through virtual means. These learning experiences include opportunities for reflection on, and application of, specific instructional practices, strategies, and frameworks.
The New Educator Series courses are self-paced, asynchronous, and can be taken in any order.
Educator Effectiveness
Foundational knowledge of the Framework for Teaching will support the understanding of the structure of, and help educators recognize the importance of, critical attributes in self-assessing practice. In this course, new educators will practice application of learning to teaching scenarios and reflect on current progress in their Educator Effectiveness Cycle.
Learning Intentions
- Recognize the structure of the Danielson (2022) Framework for Teaching (FfT)
- Apply knowledge of the Framework for Teaching scenarios
- Reflect on current progress in the Educator Effectiveness (EE) Cycle
Instruction
Honing your instructional practices takes time. This course will take a look at effective instructional strategies to help guide new educators in developing their practice.

- Identify student engagement look fors / characteristics
- Identify research-based teacher engagement strategies / teacher practices
The Classroom Environment
Classroom management is one of the most challenging areas for new teachers. This course will provide educators with concrete strategies to improve the environment in their classroom.

- Define classroom management
- Identify relationship building strategies
- Analyze what it looks like to be proficient when creating an environment of respect and rapport
Self Care
The Phases of First-Year Teaching are critical to understanding in order to focus on the right self-care practices during that time. This course will examine the phases in the second half of the school year and also provide self-care strategies.
Learning Intentions
- Identify and describe the disillusionment, rejuvenation, and reflection phases
- Build a self-care strategies toolbox
