Day 1 - SCERTS® Model - Introduction (August 19)
Using the SCERTS® framework to guide priorities for autistic learners and learners with social emotional learning differences.

  • Identify core domains, developmental stages, and empirical evidence
  • Identify developmental priorities and provision for children with social emotional learning differences who are pre-symbolic (before words)
  • Identify developmental priorities and provision for children with social emotional learning differences who are at the emerging language states and learners who are at conversational stages

 

Day 2 - SCERTS® Program Planning (August 20)
Using the SCERTS® in Action to embed supports within natural activities.

  • Use the Observation and Action Planning Form to design whole-group learning environments focused on active engagement and across development stages
  • Design an Educational Planning Form for an individual child by determining stage and embedding supports within natural routines

 

Day 3 - SCERTS® Assessment (August 21)
Using the SCERTS® Assessment and SCERTS® in Action to measure progress over time.

  • Use the Assessment Process (SAP) to gather data on a learner's social communication and emotional regulation
  • Use the Assessment Process (SAP) as a meaningful measure of outcome and program planning
  • Use the in Action Assessment to get started with implementation and program design

 

Presenter: Emily Rubin

Emily RubinEmily Rubin, MS, CCC-SLP is the Director of Communication Crossroads, Inc. in Atlanta, GA. She is a speech-language pathologist specializing in the relationship between social emotional engagement and learning. As a former adjunct faculty member and lecturer at Yale University, she has served as a member of their Autism and Developmental Disabilities Clinic. She recently participated as a member of the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association’s Ad Hoc Committee on Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD), a committee charged with developing guidelines related to the role of speech-language pathologists in the diagnosis, assessment, and treatment of ASD. Along with Jennifer C. Townsend, M.Ed, she is a co-developer of the Social Emotional Engagement – Knowledge and Skills (SEE-KS) professional learning approach. Emily is also the co-author of SCERTS, a criterion referenced assessment tool and framework for social and emotional development. She lectures internationally and provides consultation to educational programs developing programs for social and emotional learning and engagement in the classroom setting.
