Description

Creating an effective and tailored English Learner (EL)/Multilingual Learner (ML) Policy Handbook helps districts implement programs and practices that meet federal and state legal requirements, align with DPI expectations, and reflect research-based best practices. A well-crafted handbook also ensures strong support for ELs/MLs, educators, and families.

CESA 1 will support your team through the process of building or refining your EL/ML Policy Handbook.

Participants will:

  • Understand the requirements for creating an EL/ML policy handbook at the school or district level.
  • Review and gather existing documents currently used in your school or district that relate to EL/ML services and policies.
  • Collaborate as a team to identify the key components your EL/ML policy handbook should include, based on Federal mandates, DPI recommendations, and local district guidelines.
  • Develop an action plan to complete and implement your school or district EL/ML policy handbook.

Audience: EL/ML Teachers, EL/ML Coordinators, Directors of Curriculum, Instructional Coaches, and Principals
