Explore the synergy possible between AI tools and the inquiry/research process in secondary classrooms. Learn practical strategies for using AI to help learners with initial tasks - like narrowing topics and drafting questions - so they can dedicate more time and energy to critical thinking, collaboration, and developing their own arguments. This workshop also reinforces the importance of the learner’s original thoughts and ideas in the inquiry process, beginning to end.

Objectives

  • Discuss the ethical framework for positioning AI as a supportive research partner rather than an academic shortcut.
  • Investigate how AI tools can scaffold organizational tasks to free up students' cognitive energy for critical thinking and collaboration.
  • Analyze practical AI prompting strategies for guiding students through the early stages of research, such as narrowing a topic and finding sources.
  • Explore learning activities that use AI as a catalyst for collaborative brainstorming, peer feedback, and shared inquiry.
